103 degrees in Las Vegas Sunday June 3, 2007

Monday, June 4th, 2007

With this post and the last one, we’re trying something new to help the pages upload a little faster.  We’ve reduced the photo size (memory) to help speed things along.

It was going to be 103 degrees today in Las Vegas so we got up real early and headed to Blythe, CA on our way to Tucson, AZ.   The road just goes on and on!!!!

It is 106 here in Blythe.  It is suppose to be 109 degrees tomorrow so we again will get an early start and head to Tucson where it is cooler, only 99 degrees.  Summer has certainly arrived in the Southwest desert.

As we travel along the roads and highways we like to help the communities with their economy like eating in restaurants, buying gas, and staying in RV Parks.  Well, we really succeeded with Las Vegas.  We helped their economy a lot by leaving our money there!!!!!!!!!!

The group Creedence Clearwater was in LV June 1st and 2nd. We made reservations and where able to purchase affordable Le Reve tickets online to see them.  After we had paid for our tickets we noticed it said Creedence Clearwater Revisited.  Ooooppps!  During their heyday their name was Creedence Clearwater Revival.  So we got on the internet and looked them up.  There were 2 oringinal members with this Revisited group.  But the main singer, John Fogerty, was not in this group.  They hired a singer that sounded like Fogerty so CCR sounded like themselves.  They sang their own songs straight for an hour and half.  The lead singer sang every song.  We really enjoyed them.  This is our first concert in a long time and things do change.  Years ago everyone would have a lit cigarrette lighter waving in the air.  People do not carry lighters like they used to so they use their open cell phones to provide light now or battery charged small lightbulbs.

Bellagio is famous for its beautiful dancing fountain.  This is Sam’s Town’s own version.

We had a great time in Las Vegas but it is time to move on down the road.

Las Vegas and Hoover Dam Saturday, June 2, 2007

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

The road to Las Vegas from Barstow, CA. is pretty constant and extreme.  I don’t know how the settlers made it through the Mohave Desert.  I also wonder what possessed some settlers to come to the realization that they have reached their dream land and built towns in the middle of this desolation.  What looks like a lake in the picture below is actually a huge field of sand.

We passed more Joshua trees on our way.  These are more normal and not as full as the one in our previous post.

We arrive at our home in Las Vegas.

We took a day trip to the Hoover Dam which is about 30 miles from Las Vegas.  It was built from 1931-1935 and put 1000’s of people to work during the depression. We are not taking our Montana 5th wheel down that road when we leave Vegas.  It is a small 2 lane curvy road that drops down to the dam and steep down grades leaving the dam going to AZ.  Not a favorite type road with our 5th wheel behind us!!!!
The dam area is very massive and awesome to see.  I (Tinka) remember driving there with my parents years ago and it was a very scary road  and they haven’t improved it that much.

But now they are building a 4 lane road through there. There won’t be steep grades because they are building bridges going across the mountains now.  That looks scary also. znew-road.JPGzroad.JPGzhoover-dam.JPG

Boats can come close to the dam.

When we left the dam and headed back to Vegas we drove around part of Lake Mead.  Lake Mead has 550 miles of beach.  Hoover Dam is behind those beautiful colorful mountains.

As we were getting close to Henderson, near Las Vegas, we drove into a new community called Lake Las Vegas.  Beautiful homes away from the crowds of LV.  Celine Dion and people like that live in that community.

We are enjoying our stay here in Las Vegas.  When we stay in  a Las Vegas hotel we try to cram as many activites  as we can in our brief stay. This time we go see the sights and come back to our house and relax before heading back out to see some more.

Having trouble blogging Tuesday May 29,2007

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

We have several days of blogs but we are having trouble uploading them and the pictures.  We will try to figure out what is wrong so bear with us.

We are in Las Vegas and will be here for about 5 more days.  After that we are heading to Tucson  for about a week and will visit some friends of ours who live there and are from the Dallas area.  Then it is back to Dallas for about a week to see family and friends.

We hope to be blogging in a couple of days.
