Several days ago we decided to head over to South Padre Island where Tinka could try out her dysfunctional umbrella.

But that is not the real story.  On the way to the island, we were surprised to find that Hwy 107 was closed due to flooding.

Marfa, Texas is located in the high desert plains about 20 miles from Fort Davis.  Marfa replaced Fort Davis as the county seat for Presidio County, TX in 1885.  It looks like they bought the paint for the courthouse from Susan G. Komen.

Well, time came to swap one mountain range for another.  As we left Ruidoso, NM and headed past Mescalero to Alamogordo, we spotted what looked like low hanging clouds.   (Click on photo to enlarge)

It turns out that these are not clouds, but the White Sands Missile Monument, home to the White Sands Missile Range.
