A Cure for Insomnia Thursday, June 28, 2007

Having trouble sleeping?  We have a cure for you!  You take a 5 year old girl and a 6 year old girl to the beach for a week.  That is exactly what Papa Rick and Grammy Tinka did.  We picked up one granddaughter, Ayden, on Father’s Day and another one, Gracie, on Monday night after Father’s Day.  On Tuesday morning we pulled in the slides on the 5th wheel and headed to Galveston.  We parked at Dellanera RV Park, which is a sand dune away from the Gulf of Mexico.  On Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday, the girls played on the beach.  They entertained themselves by jumping over waves, riding boogie boards, feeding the birds and riding their pink air rings.  In between all that, they loved playing and digging in the sand.

aat-the-beach-sm.jpg After dinner and showers every night, the girls would pick out a movie to watch.  It was fun for them to lie on the hide-a-bed and watch DVD movies.  The TV would be set to turn off and then it was sleepytime.

asleeping-sm.jpgThursday we drove by the Carnival Cruise Line and saw the Ecstasy in port.  Then we headed to the free ferry.  We drove our truck on and rode the ferry to Bolivar Peninsula.  Papa with a casting net.

After driving around for a while, Rick and Tinka stopped at their favorite restaurant at Crystal Beach and had Crab Nachos.

Those are the best!!!!!!!  Of course, the kids did not appreciate thsoe and had a grilled cheese sandwich and a hamburger.  We’ve tried to make crab nachos ourselves several times but they just aren’t the same!  After our great lunch (dinner?) we went to Stingaree Marina and bought chicken necks.  We needed the chicken necks to go crabbing for soft shell blue crabs.  After catching, mainly, baby crabs we headed back to the ferry and home.  As soon as we arrived back at the RV Park the girls played in the sand at the playground that was just outside our door.  Another movie to end the day and then  to sleep!!!!

Girls, with identical dresses, climbing stairs on ferry.  After unpacking clothes, the girls realized they had the same dresses.  That is all they wore all week long when we went out on the town.

Friday—We spent all day long at the beach.

Saturday-We drove around for a while looking at beach houses, went shopping and then back to the beach.  Ayden’s father, Lance, drove down from Dallas and arrived in the afternoon and the girls spent the rest of the day at the beach jumping over waves, riding boogie boards, feeding birds, flying kites, riding pink air rings and building a sandcastle in the sand.

Saturday night we cleaned up and went out to eat seafood at Fishtales.  We sat upstairs on the outside patio overlooking the gulf with the gentle breeze keeping us cool.

Sunday-Would you believe more of the same?  That night we were going to go play Miniature Golf but it started to rain.  So we decided we would try again in the morning but guess what it was doing when we awoke?  Raining!!!!!  Lance loaded the girls in the backseat and headed back to Dallas.  We packed up and headed to the Corpus Christi area.

What a great time we had with the granddaughters!!!!  But we are exhausted!!!!  So, if you are having trouble sleeping, take 2 young granddaughters to the beach for a week and that will cure your insomnia.

Now you understand why we haven’t posted an entry in a while.

What a great story about the week with the granddaughters. A perfect place to be with kids. They must have had so much fun and got to know each other better. And I do know the feeling. Another way to beat insomnia is to look after a 6 yr. old and a 90 yr. old for 10 days!
    Happy Travels to you.
Until we meet again. (sung to the tune of Happy Trails)
