Views out our front window Thursday, May 31, 2007

This is a blog we did several days ago and had trouble uploading it.

These were our views out our 5th wheel windows while we were near Sacramento.

Tinka and I took advantage of the fishing in the private lake.  We saw someone catch an 8-pound bass, and toss it back.

These were our views visiting our friend.  This is near Barstow, CA.  Looks almost like Barstow, TX (near Pecos, TX) except without mountains.

Our friend has a better view than we did.

While driving through the Mojave Desert we spotted a new cactus.  Is it a tree or a cactus?  It is a Joshua Tree which is only found in several places in the world.  Below is a link to some information.

I thought this was interesting.

Mormon pioneers are said to have named this species “Joshua” Tree because it mimicked the Old Testament prophet Joshua waving them, with upraised arms, on toward the promised land. (Our specimen is a little fuller than most.  Most have only a couple of arms.)  This unique species grows abundantly at Joshua Tree National Park in California and Joshua Forest Parkway in Western Arizona.

We passed about 10 trucks full of garlic or onions.

Texas has wildflowers along some of their highways in the spring.  California has oleanders planted all along their highways.  Sometimes they are planted in the median, sometimes on the left side of the highway, sometimes on the right and sometimes in all three places.  The other day we drove from Sacaremento to Bakersfield which is about 270 miles and never ran out of the oleanders.  How many plants would that take, we wondered?

We are in Las Vegas now seeing how much money we can spend and lose.

We are taking a day trip to Hoover Dam tomorrow.
